Off-Chain Voting for Staked Accounts Proposal

1. Title

Enable Off-Chain Voting for All Staked Accounts with Single-Click Multi-Account Support

2. Abstract

This proposal requests implementing off-chain voting functionality that allows all staked $ME accounts to participate in governance without paying transaction fees or rent costs. The system will include a one-click voting feature enabling users to vote from all their staked accounts simultaneously.

3. Motivation

Current on-chain voting requires transaction fees and rent payments, creating barriers to governance participation. Many users have multiple staked accounts but face significant costs to vote from each one. Off-chain voting eliminates these costs while maintaining security through cryptographic signatures, encouraging broader community participation and making governance more accessible to all $ME stakers.

4. Key Terms

  • Off-Chain Voting: Voting system that operates entirely off blockchain without any transaction requirements

  • Multi-Account Voting: Ability to vote from multiple staked accounts with a single action

5. Specification

System Required: Off-chain voting infrastructure

Technical Implementation:

  • Web-based voting interface connected to linked accounts

  • Integration with existing staking verification

Timeline: As soon as possible

Scope: All accounts with active $ME staking are eligible to participate

6. Benefits/Risks

Benefits:

  • No transaction fees or rent costs for voting

  • Increased governance participation from staked community

  • One-click voting from multiple accounts saves time and complexity

  • Maintains security through cryptographic signatures

Risks:

  • Need for secure vote storage and counting system

7. Outcomes

Success Criteria:

  • All staked accounts can vote off-chain without fees

  • Single-click multi-account voting functionality works correctly

  • Increased voter participation rates

8. Cost Summary

Total Cost: Development resources required for off-chain voting infrastructure implementation

Implementation requires building new voting system with signature verification and multi-account support.

9. Performance Milestones

  • Implementation: As soon as possible

defeats the transparency and verifiability to a degree no?

Off-chain voting feels like a step backward, the real issue is the transaction fees and rent costs. It’d be better to mitigate that, e.g. with minimal fees or small voting rewards.
